Lake Travis is 63.75 miles long, and its maximum width is 4.5 miles. The lake covers 18,929 acres, and its capacity is 1,953,936 acre-feet. The lake is considered full at an elevation of 681.1 msl. At this elevation the lake contains 382,092,882,600 gallons of water. There are 270 miles of shoreline around the lake. It has a maximum depth of 210 feet and an average depth of 62 feet. The lakes historic high level is 710.4 feet msl on December 25, 1991. Its historic low level is 614.2 feet msl on August 14 1951.
 Lake Travis was created by the impounding of the Colorado River by the construction of Mansfield Dam in 1937- 41. The dam is 266.41 feet high. The length is 7,089.39 feet. At the base it is 213 feet thick. Ranch Road 620 built on top of the dam and the adjoining protective walls bring the actual height of the dam to 274 feet. The top of the dam is 750 feet msl. Its spillway elevation is 714 feetmsl. At this elevation the lake contains 636,691,999,536 gallons of water. It has 3 Pen Stocks which divert water to 3 turbines with a total electrical generating capacity of 93,000 kw. The Dam has 24 floodgates at 4,770 cfs each. Each floodgate is 8.5 feet in diameter.

The current 100 year floodplain sits at 715'above mean sea level and is being raised to 722'msl. This is a very important fact when purchasing property on the Lake. Be sure that your Real Estate Agent is fully aware of the consequences of this floodplain change. You may be required to carry Flood Insurance and your lender will require a flood elevation certificate on the property. Lake Travis is a fluctuating level lake. Boat docks on the lake tend to be floating docks in order to accomodate the frequent adjustments that are needed due to the lake level changes.

Fritz Hughes Park -
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, take RR 620 south 3.7 miles to Low Water Crossing Road (just below Mansfield Dam). Turn left on Low Water Crossing Road and travel 0.2 miles to Fritz Hughes Park Road. Turn left onto Fritz Hughes Park Road.
Hippie Hollow Park -
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, take RR 620 south 1.3 miles to Comanche Trail. Turn right on Comanche Trail and travel 2 miles. Park entrance is on your left.
Laura Reed Park
From 183, take FM 1431 West toward Jonestown. Proceed to Reed Parks Road and turn left. Laura Reed is approximately 2.5 miles down on the left.
Mansfield Dam Park
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, travel south 4.9 miles. Turn right onto Mansfield Dam Road, just south of Mansfield Dam. The park entrance is on your left.
Mary Quinlan Park
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, take RR 620 south 2.1 miles to Quinlan Park Road. Turn left onto Quinlan Park Road and travel 5.5 miles to park entrance.
Pace Bend Park
From the intersection of RR 620 and Hwy. 71, take Hwy. 71 west 11 miles to RR 2322 (Pace Bend Park Road). Turn right on RR 2322 and travel 4.6 miles to park entrance.
Sandy Creek Park
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, take FM 2222 (Bullick Hollow Road) west 2 1/2 miles to FM 2769. Turn left onto FM 2769 and travel 4 miles to the town of Volente. In Volente, turn right onto Lime Creek road and follow Lime Creek Road 6 miles to the park entrance. Park entrance is on the left.
Selma Hughes Park
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, take RR 620 south 2.1 miles to Quinlan Park Road. Turn right on Quinlan Park Road and travel 4.6 miles to Selma Hughes Road. Turn left on Selma Hughes Road and proceed to park entrance.
Tom Hughes Park
From the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222, take RR 620 south 2.3 miles to Marshall Ford Drive. Turn right on Marshall Ford Drive and travel 0.2 miles to Park Drive. Turn right and travel 2.8 miles to park entrance.
